Robert J. Mills
HORNELL-Robert J. Mills, 84, of County Route 70A (Town of Howard), passed away Tuesday afternoon (April 27, 2021) at Arnot-Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, after a long illness.
Born in Wellsville on August 26, 1936 he was a son of the late Clifford and Luray (Boveau) Mills.
After graduating from high school in Wellsville, Bob joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country from 1956 to his honorable discharge in 1958. Following his military service he was employed as a journeyman baker in Wellsville.
He was a very proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 17 and was employed with Lane Construction and retired from L.C. Whitford Construction.
An avid outdoorsman, Bob had a great passion for golf and was a member of the Twin Hickory Golf Club in Hornell where he was a previous club champion. He also loved animals and gardening and especially enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing.
His loving family includes his wife, Dona (Jackson) Mills; one son, Timothy (Janet) Mills of Battletown, KY; one daughter, Michele Mills of Uniontown, PA; one stepdaughter, Maxine (Mark) Glazer of Rockville, MD; five grandchildren, Vennessa, Cristin, Ashley, Morgan and Olivia; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, David (Connie) Mills of Wellsville; one sister, Maureen Strauss of Indiana; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the St. James Hospital and Fresenius Dialysis in Hornell and UR St. James Hospital and Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA for the wonderful care they gave to Bob during his illness.
Calling hours are 4-6 p.m. Monday (May 3, 2021) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Those attending will be required to wear a face mask and use hand sanitizer and practice social distancing after entering the funeral home. Friends are invited to join his family at the Fremont Center Cemetery, Stephens Mills, where a graveside service and interment, with full military honors, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday (May 4, 2021). The graveside service will be live streamed and may be seen either on the homepage of www.bishopandjohnsonfuneralhome.com (please see link for live stream) or on the Facebook page of Bishop & Johnsen Funeral Home, Inc. for 30 days beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday (May 4, 2021).
The United States flag and the Air Force flag will proudly fly at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in recognition of Bob’s military service.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843 (envelopes will be available at the funeral home) or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
