Ricky A. Bovee

Ricky A. Bovee

HORNELL – Ricky A. Bovee, 67, of  East VanScoter Street, passed away on Wednesday (Jan. 4, 2023), surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Rick was born on April 28, 1955 at Bethesda Hospital and was a graduate of Hornell High School, Class of 1973. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Judy VanAllen, on September 20, 1975 at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, in Hornell.  He was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation for 25+ years, retiring in 2017. He would return to the DOT every winter to work “snow and ice” to pass his time, waiting for Judy to retire.

Rick was a handy man extraordinaire, he was so proud of his many big home projects, and especially proud of his backyard “oasis” he designed and built himself to host many family gatherings.  He was also always willing to help a friend with any type of work.

If any one of his four daughters had a problem at their houses, all it took was a phone call and he was off to solve the problem or take on a project. He loved the game of golf, took great pride in accessorizing his own golf cart and played many holes at Twin Hickory with his friends in Hornell. He taught all of his daughters what was meant by the saying “go big or go home” – especially celebrating the magic of Christmas.

After 47 years of marriage, Rick is survived by his wife, Judy, his four daughters, Jen Bovee of Russell, Pennsylvania, Kristen (Kelley) Quinlan of Canisteo, New York, Kelli (Eric) Stomieroski of West Henrietta, New York and Stacey Bovee of Rochester, New York. He adored his two grandchildren, Grayson and Arabella and was very proud to be their Grandpa and Umpa. He is also survived but his sister, Carolyn (Dave) Doty of Groveland, New York, Irene Hodge of Warren, Pennsylvania, Sherry Henry of Hartsville, New York and a brother, Norman Bovee of Germany and several nieces and nephews.

At Rick’s request, there will be no services.

The family would like to thank all of the team at CareFirst Hospice for all of their kind compassion, they are truly angels here on earth.

The Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell is honored to assist Rick’s family with the arrangements.
