WINTER HAVEN, FL/HORNELL-Richard Lee Davis, 77, of Winter Haven, FL, formerly of Hornell, passed away early Tuesday afternoon (July 13, 2021) at AdventHealth-Vitas Hospice at Lake Wales Hospital in Lake Wales, FL after a brief illness.
Born in Hornell on June 8, 1944 he was a son of the late Robert F. and Dorothy (Nice) Davis. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife, Betty, who passed away five years ago; and two brothers, Bobby Davis and Gary Davis.
Richard attended school in Hornell and began working at the age of 19 as a resident aide at the former Craig Developmental Center in Sonyea. Later he was employed for many years at the former Dominic’s Bakery in Hornell and eventually owned and operated R & B Car Wash for several years at the corner of Main St. and River St. in Hornell.
After leaving Hornell, Richard began his career with Dunkin Donuts and Kentucky Fried Chicken. He was a trouble shooter and responsible for opening locations all across the United States, including Florida, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Arizona. A resident of Florida for the past 25 years he was mostly recently employed by Quality Inns and retired last year.
Richard enjoyed woodworking and restoring cars and while he resided in Hornell he was a member of the Hornell Moose Lodge No. 210.
His loving family includes his four children, Ginger (Michael) Evans of New Market, TN, Robert Earl Davis of Kodak, TN, Crystal Davis of Dansville, NY and Cindy Davis of Hornell; their mother, Carol (Hathaway) Davis of Geneseo, NY; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four sisters, Carolyn (Charles) Drake of Nevada, Marilyn (Richard) Elliott of Auburndale, FL, Nancy (Harold) Foster of Bath, NY and Barbara (Mike) Martin of Florida; one brother, Thomas (Marcia) Davis of Hornell; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no calling hours. Private interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Greenwood, NY.
