Richard Keith Wightman

Richard Keith Wightman

AVOCA  – Richard Keith Wightman, born July 14, 1958, left us suddenly on Saturday (Dec. 16, 2023).

He is predeceased by his parents, Richard C. and Beverly (Germon) Swickert.  He leaves behind his cherished wife, Staci Sherer, whom he adored, and two sons, Brent (Megan) of Syracuse, NY and Michael of Bath, NY.  Also, his sisters, Shelly Lezer (Paul Nevers) in Pennsylvania and Kathy Olmsted Calarco (Joe) in Florida.  Richard has six grandchildren, Haily Sue, Jaston, Matilda, Faith, Ryan and Oliver. His in-laws, Kenneth and Pat Sherer were loved beyond measure. He also has several cousins from the Meiers (Eng) to the Germons who are equally as shocked to know of his passing.

A graduate of Avoca Central School, he went on to become certified in weatherization to serve Steuben County for many years.  His home on Barnes Road, Avoca became his stead for over 40 years. He worked diligently with his wife to achieve this prized property.  He loved to hunt, four-wheel, hike and walk with his dogs over the years.  He proved to be very handy in repairs, carpentry and general home & property maintenance and improvements. Everyone certainly enjoyed his humor, especially his mother.

He will be sorely missed by literally hundreds of friends in addition to the family.

Please join everyone on Saturday, (Jan. 6, 2024) at the Cohocton American Legion from 2-4 p.m. to celebrate his beautiful life.

The Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 22 N. Min St., AVOCA is honored to assist Richard’s family with the arrangements.
