Richard A. “Rich” Cummings
HAMMONDSPORT-Richard A. “Rich” Cummings, (affectionately known as Wolfman), 71, of Hammondsport, N.Y. died early Saturday morning (Feb. 20, 2021) at home after a very brief illness.
Rich was born in Bath, N.Y. on April 6, 1949 to Clinton L. Cummings, Sr. and Anna Minar Cummings. He was a lifelong resident of Hammondsport and loved the Keuka Lake area.
He worked for over 30 years at the Great Western/Taylor Winery until it closed. He enjoyed some short term dairy farm jobs and later worked for the Hammondsport Central School for 13 years where he retired as the Grounds Keeper in 2011.
Richard was an active volunteer fireman in Hammondsport for over 50 years and took a lot of pride in being of service to his community. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending a lot of time on the lake and hunting the hills around Hammondsport. He was a natural animal lover and raised a variety of animals and cared for many an orphaned or injured animal. He was blessed to have many wonderful friends and had a very active social life. He was a member of the Red Knights, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.
Richard is survived by his wife, Julie Cummings of Hammondsport; his daughter, Sharise (Mark) Shermer of Penn Yan, N.Y.; a step daughter, Candace Scotchmer of Bath, N.Y.; two brothers, John (Cathy) Cummings of Florida and Clinton Cummings, Jr. of Hammondsport; three grandchildren, Jeddrik Cummings, Saxxon Moore and Malik Moore all of Penn Yan, N.Y. Rich is preceded in death by his parents; his three brothers, Melborne, William and Ronald; and his sister, Barbara.
At his family’s request there will be no calling hours or service at this time. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Hammondsport.
