PHYLLIS E. STANTON
HORNELL-Phyllis E. Stanton, 81, of 1190 County Route 66, Green Acres Mobile Home Park, formerly of Burd Ave., passed away Tuesday evening (Feb. 10, 2009) at McAuley Manor in North Hornell, after a short illness.
Born in Hornell on July 28, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Forrest and Edith Vaughn Ploss. On Sept. 25, 1948 she was married at the former Park United Methodist Church in Hornell to Calvin G. “Cal” Stanton, who predeceased her on April 23, 2004 after 56 years of marriage.
A life long resident of Hornell, Phyllis was a graduate of Hornell High school and attended Geneseo State College.
She was employed as a secretary for the Hornell City School District at the Board of Education and also as a sales clerk at the former Elmhurst Dairy in Hornell. Earlier she volunteered her time as a Camp Fire leader.
Her family includes her four children, Allan (Luann) Stanton of Birmingham, Ala., Charlotte (Shearl) Barnard of Canisteo, Richard Stanton (Joann Walbridge) of De Bary, Fla. and Nancy (Dale) Sadler of Farmington; also her eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral and committal service will be held following calling hours at 3 p.m. Saturday with her grandson-in-law, the Rev. Jonathan Yaraboro officiating. Interment will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to either the American Cancer Society, 1316 College Ave., Elmira, NY 14901 or to the Sew Sews Prayer Blanket Ministry in care of the United Methosdist Church, 37 Greenwood St., Canisteo, NY 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
