NORMA M. COOPER

AVOCA –  Norma M. Cooper, 98, of 4605 County Rte 105 passed away Friday (March 10, 2023) at the Fred & Harriett Taylor Health Center in Bath.

Born in Avoca on July 20, 1924, the daughter of Kenneth and Mary (Kleckler) Mattoon.

Norma grew up on the family farm, Stony Ridge, with her five brothers. She attended the one room Greenville School through sixth grade and entered Avoca Central School in the eighth grade. After graduation in 1942 she went to Rochester to work at Kodak as a bookkeeper.

In 1945 she married Harold “Pete” Cooper in Avoca. In 1968 Norma went to work at the Bank of Avoca for over 20 years.

She was a lifelong member of the Wallace and Avoca Methodist Churches, helping with church events and volunteering at the food pantry. A member of the Avoca Historical Society, Norma was instrumental in establishing the memorial to the bus tragedy of 1943. Norma was a 4-H Leader for many years and enjoyed quilting with her friends in the Winner’s Circle.

She is survived by daughters, Candace (Sandy) Hosier of Hammondsport and Jeanne (Robert) Fisher of Florida. Her extended family includes brother-in-law Richard (Mary) Cooper of Avoca,

Sisters-in-law, Linda (Jeff) Gardner of Avoca, Judy (Jerry) Zeh, Bernice Worden, and many, many nephews and nieces who meant a great deal to her.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, of 57 years and brothers, Harold, Don, Jerry, Erwin and Larry Mattoon.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Fred & Harriett Taylor Health Center for their care and comfort during her stay.

Calling hours are 1-4 p.m. Thursday (March 16, 2023) at the Avoca Methodist Church, 8593 Jacobs Ladder Road, Avoca, with a funeral service to immediately follow.
