Nadene P. Bates

BATH-Nadene P. Bates, 82 of Mitchellsville Hill Road, Bath, passed peacefully to be with the Lord on Tuesday (Oct. 26, 2021) in her home, with her family by her side.

Born in the Town of Bath on May 16, 1939 she was the daughter of the late Lee and William (Sillman) Poole. She shared 37 years of marriage with the late Roland L. Bates.

Nadene attended school at the old Mitchellsville school house, where she was a part of the alumni group. She was a known member of the Eastern Star and was also a member of the Mitchellsville Methodist Church for several years where she served as a former treasurer.

She was employed for several years by Phillips Lighting Company in Bath where she eventually retired. After retirement she converted her beloved home into the very well-known Cairn Cottage, a home for the elderly. She cherished many years owning and operating this business before making the hard decision to close the doors this past year.

She had many hobbies but especially enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking and baking. Nadene was well known for her collection of blue cobalt glass and even better known for her famous bean burgers. She enjoyed many years raising English Bulldogs and Newfoundlands. In her later years she enjoyed solving jumble crossword puzzles and watching the hummingbirds out her kitchen windows.

Nadene was predeceased by her sister, Shirley Allen of Arkansas. She is survived by three children, Deborrah D. Buck of Bath, Michelle A. Bates of Wayne and Roland H. Bates of Bath; nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Barnes of Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank all of the people that loved and cherished Nadene in her 82 years of life, she will be greatly missed.
