MORRELL HOWARD KAPLAN

HORNELL-Morrell Howard Kaplan, 81, formerly of Hornell, died early Friday morning (Oct. 30, 2009) at the Neshaminy Manor Home in Warrington, Pa., after a long illness.
Born in Rochester on Jan. 20, 1928, he was a son of the late Abraham and Esther Levy Kaplan. On Dec. 25, 1960 he was married in Rochester to the former Pauline Spitulnik, who predeceased him on Dec. 2, 2005 after 45 years of marriage. Besides his parents and wife he was also predeceased by his brother, Dr. Marvin Kaplan of California.
A graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School in Rochester, Howard also attended Clarkson College of Technology in Pottsdam and he received his bacherlor’s of science degree in Electrical Engineering from Tri-State University in Angola, Ind. Howard also further studied at the University of Rochester, University of Maryland, Wichita State University and the University of Idaho.
For 20 years he was employed as an aerospace engineering consultant with numerous companies.
He was a member of Temple Beth-El in Hornell and Bnai Brith. From 1950 to 1952 he served with the U.S. Army and became a member of the Arthur H. Cunningham American Legion Post No. 440 in Hornell and the Jewish War Veterans Post No. 41 in Rochester.
His family includes his two daughters, Beatrice (David) Kaplan of Hatfield, Pa. and Ricki Ann Kaplan of Gray, Tenn.; his two grandchildren, Benjamin and Leah Kaplan; his sister-in-law, Ruth Kaplan of California; his brother-in-law, Myer Spitulnik of North Hornell; also his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.
Calling hours are from 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. Monday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell where a funeral service will be held following calling hours at 11 a.m. Monday. Committal services and interment will follow at Beth-El Cemetery, Hornell.
