HAMMONDSPORT – Mary V. (VanDelinder) Stone, age 86, of Hammondsport, passed away Monday (Aug. 29, 2022) after a long illness at Corning Hospital. She was born October 20, 1935, in Corning to Charles & Addie (Burge) VanDelinder.
Mary was an attendee of Hammondsport Central Schools. She married her husband, Theron L. Stone, who survives, in 1954 in Hammondsport. They then had three daughters. Mary was a seasonal vineyardist and worked in manufacturing at Mercury Aircraft, in Hammondsport.
Mary was a member of the Ladies auxiliaries of the Steuben County VFW and The American Legion, Post 407 in Hammondsport. Her hobbies included gardening, canning, planting flowers, tending to the vineyard, and most of all her trips to the casino. She will be remembered as an avid player of the penny slots, occasionally winning, but sometimes only loosing twenty-five dollars, however, being a lucky charm for other family members to win.
Surviving is her loving husband, of 68 years, Theron, daughters Lois (Michael) Palerma and Sandy (Sam) Krohn, 7 Grandchildren, 12 Great-Grandchildren, and a Brother.
Besides her parents, Mary is predeceased by her daughter, Patricia L. Stone. Also, by her four brothers, William VanDelinder, Forrest VanDelinder, John VanDelinder, and Roger VanDelinder. In addition, her three sisters, Josephine Wilson, Mabel Champlin, and Charlotte Frankel.
Calling hours are 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Friday (Sept. 2, 2022) at the Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 35 Main St., Hammondsport. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Barre Butts officiating. Committal Service will immediately follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Hammondsport.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Post 407 Roswell-McDaniels, PO Box 544, Hammondsport, NY 14840. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
