MARY M. CORNELL
HORNELL-Mary M. Cornell, 85, of the Hungry Hollow Rd., Town of Fremont, passed away early Sunday morning (Dec. 12, 2010) at Hornell Gardens
Born in Hornell on Jan. 4, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Donald and Marguerite Brown Moran. On Jan. 24, 1946, she was married in Hornell to Kenneth N. Cornell, who predeceased her in 1977 after 31 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her infant son, Gary Cornell; her two sisters, Kathryn Coston and Ann Kennedy and her brother, John Moran.
A life long resident of the Hornell area, Mary was a graduate of Hornell High School and after graduating she was employed by the former Erie Railroad in Hornell as a junior clerk. Later, besides being a homemaker, she also assisted her husband in the operation of Ken Cornell Bulldozer & Backhoe Service as a bookkeeper.
Mary was an avid lottery player and also enjoyed playing cards, hooking rugs and watching football on television, especially the Buffalo Bills. A self taught organ player, she also loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Her family includes her five children, Patricia (Nick) Tennant of Manassas, Va., Margaret “Peg” Cornell of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., Kenneth “Neil” Cornell of Hornell, Thomas (Amy) Cornell of Hammondsport and Nathan (Kay) Cornell of Hornell; her seven grandchildren, Kathleen Tennant, Diana Egan, Kelly Egan, Collin Cornell, Arlen Cornell, Andrea (Chris) Muhleisen and Michael Cornell; her three great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Kenneth and Natalee Muhleisen; her sister, Joanne Moran of Tacoma, Wash.; also her nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Hornell Gardens for the compassionate care that they gave to Mary.
Calling hours are from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral and committal service will be held following calling hours at 7 p.m. Tuesday, with Deacon Robert McCormick of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Hornell and the Rev. Paul Rowley, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Hammondsport officiating. Interment will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
