Mary Frey

COHOCTON – Mary Frey, age 90, passed peacefully on Saturday (March 22, 2025) at the Arnot-Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY after a brief illness.

She was born on October 28, 1934 in Maytown, PA to the late Reuben and Mary Shireman Kendig. Besides her parents, she is also predeceased by her stepmother, Lizzie Miller Kendig.

Mary married the late Edward Clayton Frey on December 21, 1958 at the Maytown Church of God. She graduated from Lancaster School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse and was hired as a ward teacher at the same school. Mary and Ed raised their family on Gruber Road in Cohocton, NY.

She was a member of the Wallace Wesleyan Church and active with their Missionary Society. Mary loved to sing and teach the youth in Sunday School.

Mary was a school nurse at Wayland/Cohocton for 23 years. After retirement in 2006 she became a snowbird, living with her daughter, Kathy until 2022.

She is survived by her three children, Kathryn Hope, Edward (Sandy) Frey and Jacqueline Palmer; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are 2-4 P.M. SATURDAY (MARCH 29, 2025) at the Wallace Wesleyan Church where a funeral service will take place following calling hours at 4 P.M. SATURDAY. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Avoca, NY.
