ALMOND – Mary Ann Reitnauer passed away on the evening of February 24, 2023, after a long illness.
Born Mary Ann Reitz, June 26, 1935, in Portville NY to Leonard and Mary Reitz. After graduating from Portville Central School in 1953, she attended nursing school at St. James School of Nursing in Hornell. On a road trip to California with her best friend, she met the love of her life, Louis Reitnauer. They married April 5, 1958, in Cuba NY and later moved to Almond NY where she lived until her death.
After her nursing career she worked for Allegany County Department of Social Services as a Supervisor for almost 30 years before her retirement. She loved her daily walks with her dog, loved gardening, knitting, and was an avid quilter. Her grandchildren remember how much she enjoyed embarrassing them in a public place for her own entertainment. Anyone who knew her, knew that she was one of the kindest woman you would ever meet.
She is predeceased by her husband, Louis Reitnauer. She is survived by her two sons, Stephen (Nancy) Reitnauer of Andover, NY and Joel Reitnauer of Wellsville, NY; her three granddaughters, Hilary (Peter) Maes of Windsor VT, Bridget (Robert) Romero of Wellville, NY and Cecelia Reitnauer of Bradford VT; in addition to her six great grandchildren, Kathleen Reitnauer, Riley Romero, Jack Maes, Liam Maes, Robert Romero Jr. and Eilis Maes.
A small service with family is planned for the spring and she will be buried at the Bath National Cemetery with her husband Louis.
