She was born on Aug. 3, 1938 in Hornell the daughter of the late William and LaVerna Say Dingwell.
Marlene graduated from Hornell High School and the Steuben-Allegany County BOCES Nursing School in 1970 to become a LPN.
Throughout her life she opened her heart to so many people in need and she often neglected her own needs; missing so many things of life which she should have been part of. Her loving family will truly be lost without her.

They had five children who survive her, Alan Lee Hurd (Valerie Gregory) of Andover, David Robert Hurd (Laurie Ide) of South Canisteo, Patricia A. (John) Thompson of Hornell, Deborah L. (Richard Ried) of Flushing, Mich. and Brett D. Hurd (Katie VanAllen) of Canisteo.
In 1972 she married Jerry A. Walsh, Sr. in Hornell and began a 40 year adventure; 15 ½ years as a Navy wife in Iceland, Norfolk, Va. and Gulfport, Miss. Upon Jerry’s retirement from the Seabees’ they returned home to Hornell where Marlene was self employed as a house cleaner, caretaker and custodian at the United Presbyterian Church in Hornell where she was also a member.
Marlene loved to be outdoors, especially camping. Besides socializing, she also enjoyed shopping at the Salvation Army Thrift Stores, collecting antiques and always looked forward to attending the annual Christmas Cantata. Marlene will be remembered for being a terrific homemaker and the “best mother on earth.”
Besides her husband of 40 years, Jerry and her five children, her family includes her sister, Carol (Phillip) Rienhol of Jacksonville, Fla.; her brother, William Dingwell (Barb Hurd) of South Canisteo; her two stepsons, Jerry A. Walsh, Jr. of Connecticut and Mark A. Walsh of Dubois, Pa.; her 23 grandchildren, Mindi, Dakota, Dylan, Christopher, John Jr., Scott, Bridgett, Daniel, Andrew, Allysa, Brett, Allie, Noah, Billy, Daman, Dylan, Dalton, Hunter, Chyenne, Kevin, Rebecca, Jillian and Lisette and her nine great- grandchildren, Jacob, Clair, Zac, Alexis, Isabella, Damon, Addan, Wyatt and Leah.
Marlene was predeceased by her parents and two children.
