HAMMONDSPORT – Loretta Anna Rinke Kornuszko of Hammondsport, NY and Fort Lauderdale, FL age 89, died at AdventHealth Hospital in Altamonte Springs, FL on April 7, 2022 surrounded by friends and family. Mrs. Kornuszko, the widow of the late Dr. Edward A. Kornuszko of Big Flats and Hammondsport, NY and Ft Lauderdale, FL was born on March 15, 1933 in Corning, NY to Rudolf Karl Rinke and Anna Veronika Koch Rinke.

She graduated Corning Northside High School, after which she earned her Nursing Diploma from Syracuse General Hospital School of Nursing in 1954, and her Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health Nursing from Syracuse University in 1959. Loretta worked as a Head Nurse at Syracuse General Hospital and then the Syracuse Health Department, after which she began her career as a Public Health Nurse for Steuben County, eventually becoming Director of Public Health Nursing. Mrs. Kornuszko continued her education at Alfred University and earned her Master’s Degree in 1982.

She was active on a variety of committees for Steuben County including: the Southern Tier Central Regional Planning and Development Board, Human Services Committee, Community Services Board, and Affirmative Action Committee. She was a founding member of Southern Tier Hospice in 1981 and AIDS Outreach of the Southern Tier. After retiring, Loretta divided her time between her homes in south Florida and Keuka Lake. She was dedicated to the restoration of the Tridentine Latin Mass, and a friend and advocate of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre and the Priestly Society of St. Pius X. Loretta was a benefactor of German and Polish cultural endeavors, and wildlife conservation.

She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Margaret A. Kornuszko-Story of Hellertown, PA and Hammondsport, NY, her son, Dr. Edward V. Kornuszko of Sanford, FL and Hammondsport, NY, and two grandchildren: Keaton Story and Annabella Story, as well as many cousins in southern Germany, Switzerland and France.

Calling hours are Tuesday (April 19, 2022) from 5 PM to 7 PM with Rosary at 6:30 PM at Bishop & DeSanto (formerly LaMarche) Funeral Home, 35 Main St., Hammondsport, NY. A Requiem Mass will be sung on Wednesday (April 20, 2022) at 10 AM at St Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church, 78 Shethar St, Hammondsport, NY with burial following at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Bath, NY.
