LEO L. CLARK

HORNELL-Leo L. Clark, 81, passed away unexpectedly Monday morning (Sept. 8, 2008) at his home at 72 E. Washington St.
Born in Arkport on Feb. 20, 1927, he was a son of the late William and Nellie Ferry Clark. On Feb. 18, 1948 he was married at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell to the former Arlene Recktenwald, who survives.
A former resident of Arkport, Leo has resided in Hornell for most of his life. He attended Arkport Central School and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army.
Leo was employed with the former Hornell Woodworking before he began his employment with the Erie and Erie-Lackawanna Railroads, retiring as an engineer with Conrail.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church. He was also a member and Past Commander of the Arthur H. Cunningham American Legion Post No. 440 in Hornell and a former member of the Hornell Rotary Club.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Leo enjoyed spending time with his family, also taking care of his lawn, gardening and woodworking.
His family includes his wife of 60 years, Arlene; his three daughters, Linda (Jack) Markham of Hornell, Jean (Gerry) Schreiner of Hornell and Patricia (Mike) Jack of Canisteo; his two sons, William (Yvonne) Clark of Wayland and James (Cammie) Clark of Fennville, Mich.; his 16 grandchildren and l6 great-grandchildren; also his nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Leo was predeceased by his son, John Clark and his three brothers, Carl Clark, Lyle Clark and Ken Clark.
Calling hours are from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where the Arthur H. Cunningham American Legion Post will conduct a memorial service at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday. Friends are invited to meet his family at St. Ann’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to St. Ann’s School Memorial Fund, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, NY 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
