LAWRENCE J. “JAKE” VanVOORHEES

COHOCTON-Lawrence J. “Jake” VanVoorhees, 84, of 10011 Cosgriff Hill Road, Cohocton, went to be with the Lord, early Saturday afternoon (Nov. 26, 2011) at the home of his best friends, Vernon “Red” Towner and Alma Crawford on Long Lane Road in Avoca.
Born at the family home on Cosgriff Hill Road in Cohocton on March 23, 1927, he was a son of the late Milford and Maude Mattoon VanVoorhees. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother, Norman VanVoorhees and his two sisters, Dorothy and Wantea VanVoorhees, who he lovingly cared for until they went to be with the Lord.
A farmer for many years, Jake resided and farmed on Cosgirff Hill Road his entire life.
Besides his best friends, Red Towner and Alma Crawford, his family includes his niece, Norma Reynell of Rochester; his two nephews, David VanVoorhees of Rochester and Bruce VanVoorhees of Tacoma Wash.; also one great niece, one great nephew and one great-great nephew.
There will be an hour of calling from noon-1 p.m. Tuesday at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a funeral and committal service will follow at 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Daniel Pickering officiating. Interment will be in Mapleview Cemetery, Cohocton.
