KERMIT A. MILLER
AVOCA-Kermit A. Miller, 90, of Avoca, died early Thursday morning (March 12, 2009) at the Steuben County Health Care Facility in Bath, after a brief illness.
Born in Howard on Oct. 5, 1918, he was a son of the late Victor and Mildred Miller. On Nov. 2, 1947 he was married to the former Marilyn Stryker, who predeceased him on June 16, 2004 after 56 years of marriage. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his sister, Beatrice Karr and his brother, Deforest Miller.
A resident of Avoca for most of his life, Kermit grew up in Howard and graduated from Hornell High School. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific with the 108th Infantry Regiment Combat Unit and was a recipient of a Bronze Star.
Kermit was employed as a New York State Wildlife Technician before he began his employment as a heavy equipment operator for Cash M. Willis & Sons.
He was a member of the Avoca American Legion and enjoyed wildlife photography, collecting barbed wire and playing horseshoes.
His family includes his son, Gregory Miller of Augusta, Ga.; his granddaughter, Courtney Wallen of Arlington, Va.; his sister, Rosella Smith and his brother, Ernest Miller.
Calling hours are from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a funeral and committal service will be held following calling hours at 3 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Terry Sutfin officiating. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.
