Karl G. Hurd
ARKPOR-Karl G. Hurd, 75, passed away peacefully, in the presence of his loving family, Friday morning (Dec. 15, 2017) at his home on North Almond Valley Road, after a long illness.
Born in North Hornell on Mar. 25, 1942, he was a son of the late Shurman and Amy (Rich) Hurd. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his sister, Madelyn Hurd and his brother, Sterling Hurd.
A former resident of West Almond, Howard, New Hampshire and Canaseraga, Karl has resided in the Arkport area most of his life and was a graduate of Alfred-Almond Central School.
He owned and operated CBM Sales and Service in Canaseraga and Arkport for many years as well as Barbara Jean Country in Arkport for 32 years.
Karl was also instrumental in establishing the Hornell Association where he was a former member and past-president of the Board of Directors.
Throughout the years he was a member of the former Fraternal Order of Eagles in Hornell and was involved with quarter horses and Charolais cattle and beef cattle.
His loving family includes his beloved companion and wife of 42 years, the former Barbara Jean Gates; his two sons, Randy Hurd of Almond and Scott (Susan) Hurd of Manchester, N.Y.; his stepson, Scott McMichael of Hornell; his five grandchildren, April (Chad) Ernisse of Rochester, Noel (James) Valder of Shortsville, Dani (Matt) Mahany of Arkport, Nick (Carley) McMichael of Hornell and Maggie McMichael also of Hornell; his six great-grandchildren, Gracen, Kara, Madelynn, Landon, Cal and Charleigh Jean; his two brothers, Harry (Alice) Hurd of Cuba, N.Y. and dean Hurd of Almond; his sister, Audrey Burrow of Vancouver, Wash.; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harry and Joanne Gates of Perkinsville; as well as his nieces and nephews.
The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Karl G. Hurd.
To honor his wishes there will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Woodlawn Cemetery in Almond. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life beginning at noon on Saturday (Dec. 30, 2017) at Barbara Jean Country in Arkport.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to their favorite charity.
