Karen Putnam Gilbert
KAREN PUTNAM GILBERT
SOUTH BRISTOL-Karen Putnam Gilbert, 58, 6143 Hicks Road, Naples, formerly of Avoca, passed away Tuesday evening (Nov. 23, 2010) at the Hospeace House in Naples.
Born in Bath on June 13, 1952 she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Pauline Billings Putnam. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her two sisters, Carole McGunnigle and Joyce Miller and her brother Norman Moffatt.
A former resident of Avoca, Karen graduated as valedictorian Avoca Central School in 1970. She graduated fourth in her class from Alfred University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Physics and taught biology while doing graduate studies.
Karen has resided in Alfred Station, San Antonio, Tx. and O’Fallon, Ill. before becoming a resident of South Bristol.
She was a homemaker and did legal research.
A member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, she was an avid gardener in the old English style and maintained 88 fruit and nut trees on her property. Karen was also an avid photographer and enjoyed needlepoint, boating on Canandaigua Lake and loved cats.
Her family includes her husband, C. Thomas Gilbert III, who she married in Bath in 1974; her daughter, Kristin Gilbert of Albany; also her nieces and nephews, Lisa McGunnigle, Kathy McGunnigle Payne, Stephen McGunnigle, John Miller and Laurie Miller.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today (Saturday) at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca. Committal services and interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.
