JULIA M. “JULIE” CARRETTO
HORNELL-Julia M. “Julie” Carretto, 92, formerly of Honey Run Road, passed away Sunday morning (Oct. 13, 2013) at McAuley Manor in North Hornell, where she had been a resident for the past several years.
Born in Cosenza, Italy on June 9, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Carmine and Felicia Caputo Serrago. In 1945 she was married at the Immaculate Conception Church in Trenton, N.J. to Dominic Carretto, Jr., who predeceased her in 1991 after 46 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sister, Frances Cileo of Trenton, N.J.
Raised in Trenton, N.J., Julia came to Hornell in 1945 and was employed at the former Marion Rohr Co. in Hornell for many years before her retirement.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell.
Julia enjoyed spending time doing yard work and gardening. She will be remembered for her love of her family, especially her grandchildren.
Her loving family includes her two sons and their wives, Dominic III and Janet (Hamilton) Carretto of Dover, Del. and Carmine and Jeanne (Vickery) Carretto of Richmond, Va.; her grandchildren, Dominic Carretto IV of Dover, Del., Nikell Doyle of Raleigh, N.C., Jeffrey, Amanda and Suzannah Carretto all of Richmond, Va.; also her nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to St. Ann’s Church of Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, N.Y. 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
