ARKPORT-John F. Parks, 67, passed away, with his loving wife by his side, Friday afternoon (Nov. 4, 2022) at his home on County Route 52 (Burns Road) after a brief illness.
Born in Hornell on July 14, 1955 he was a son of the late Elmer F. and Catherine A. “Cass” (Jennings) Parks. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by one brother, William F. Parks, one sister, Patricia Dobson; and a nephew William “BJ” Dobson.
A graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1974, John also attended Alfred State College. He proudly served his country with the US Army from 1975 to his 1978, serving in Vietnam. After his military service he traveled the country eventually residing in California where he would meet his future wife before eventually moving to Arkport in 1988.
John was employed at Morrison-Knudsen (M-K) in Hornell and Foster-Wheeler in Dansville, NY for a period of time before he started and operated his own taxidermy business from his home.
He loved all sports, especially college sports, and enjoyed March Madness. He was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills and the NY Yankees and enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing.
John was close to his children Jessica and John and was extremely proud of his granddaughter Braelyn, who was his pride and joy.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of 38 years, Guadalupe (Zamora) Parks; one daughter, Jessica Parks (Michael Ames); granddaughter, Braelyn Burch; one son, John M. Parks all of Arkport; two sisters, Deborah (Tom) Gray of Tampa, FL and Bridget Robinson of Hornell; one brother, James Parks; as well as grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to join his family at the Bishopville United Methodist Church, 8528 Bishopville Road, Arkport where a funeral service, with military honors, will take place in his memory at 1 p.m. Monday (Nov. 14, 2022) with Pastor Lenny Fuller officiating. Following the service, everyone is invited to the Arkport American Legion Post, 1 Carter St., Arkport for a luncheon.
