JOAN M. DUNN
HORNELL-Joan M. Dunn, 77, entered into rest late Friday morning, Aug. 3 at her home at 302 Canisteo St., after a short illness.
Born in North Hornell on Apr. 15, 1935 she was a daughter of the late Oscar “Bill” and Lucille LaFaro Fawcett. On April 7, 1956, she was married at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell to Robert L. Dunn, who predeceased her on July 19, 2009 after 53 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Maria Grillo Dunn and her two sisters, Carol Wellington and Nancy Kull.
A native and lifelong resident of Hornell, Joan was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1953.
She was employed for many years by the Hornell City School District as a teacher’s aide at the former Lincoln School and retired as a library aide at the North Hornell School.
For about 25 years, she and her husband, Bob, operated the concession stand at the Hornell High School for the Babe Ruth League and Midget Football.
Joan was an avid Hornell High School Red Raider fan and enjoyed working in her yard.
A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and sister, her family includes her five children, Debra Cook of Watertown, Duane Dunn, Douglas (Jean) Dunn and Robert (Kolleen) Dunn all of Hornell and Shelly Dunn (Randy Amidon) of Canisteo; her 14 grandchildren, Stephanie (Shannon) Davis, Jeremiah (Mary) Franklin, Tyler Dunn, Sarah (Nick) Tsibulsky, Adam, Kori and Briana Dunn, Zach, Jaden, Evan and Nate Amidon, Dylan, Jake and Eli Dunn; her nine great-grandchildren, Cullen, Hunter, Sadie and Chelsea Davis, Deacon and Mallory Tsibulsky and Jenna, Hannah and Carly Franklin; her beloved dog, Charlie; her sister, Mary Lou Fawcett of Corning; her brother-in-law, George Wellington of Hornell; also her two aunts, Anna LoCoco and Rose LaFaro both of Hornell; and her nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours are from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a service will be held in her memory following the calling hours at 7 p.m. Monday, with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Hornell High School Red Raiders Sports Programs, in care of the Hornell Board of Education, 25 Pearl St., Hornell, N.Y. 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
