JESSE B. SLAYTON
AVOCA-Jesse B. Slayton, 24, of 4528 Waterbury Hill Road, died early Sunday morning (Aug. 10, 2008) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester as a result of injuries he sustained in a logging accident.
Born in Dansville on Feb. 8, 1984, he was a son of Kim and Arlene Knoll Slayton, who survives. On March 5, 2005, he was married at the Avoca Baptist Church to the former Jessica Lubic, who also survives.
A resident of Avoca all of his life, Jesse was a graduate of Avoca Central School.
He was a self-employed logger and mechanic and besides maintaining the equipment on the family farm, he also owned and operated Double J Services in Avoca.
Jesse will be remembered as a family man who enjoyed bowling, hiking in the woods and playing horseshoes (especially when he won.)
Besides his wife Jessica and his parents Kim and Arlene; his family includes his three children, Sarah, Joanna and Carlton; his three brothers, Conway (Sharon) Slayton of Cohocton, Jonathan (Erin) Slayton of Bath and Kelvin (Jessie) Slayton of Avoca; his paternal grandmother, Geraldine Slayton of Avoca; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Gretchen Knoll of Canisteo; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Terry and Cathy Lubic of Canaseraga and his brother-in-law Jonathon (Fannie) Lubic; also his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and his close friends, Jon Hojnoski of Virginia and Tim (Emmi) Conley of Avoca.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Carlton Slayton.
Calling hours are from 1-3 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca. A funeral and committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church. Private interment will be at the Slayton Family Cemetery, Avoca.
