Jesse Alderman

PRATTSBURGH – Jesse Alderman, 97, passed away peacefully at the Bath VA, surrounded by family, on Friday (September 30, 2022).

Jesse was born June 15, 1925, in Tyrone, NY, to the late Ralph & Nellie (Soles) Alderman.  He grew up on the family farm, which instilled him with his love of the land and farming.  He took great pride in raising beef cattle, growing gardens, tending to fruit trees and berries, along with providing friends and family with fresh eggs and honey.

Jesse received his education from a one room school in Wayne, N.Y.  He had many fond memories of that experience and to this day-maintained contact with a fellow classmate who resides in Alaska.

Jesse proudly served in the United Sates Air Force from 1946, until he was honorably discharged in 1948.  Stationed in Anchorage, Alaska as a Control Tower Radio Operator during World War II.  He often spoke of how beautiful Alaska is.

On May 21, 1949, he married Evelyn Clark, who predeceased him on December 25, 1998.  They then raised their loving daughter and son.

Jesse retired from the Taylor Wine Company, Hammondsport, as the Head of the Champagne Department.  Prior to that he worked at the GLF, was an officer with the Bath Police Department, and was a deputy sheriff with the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department.

Jesse loved to bake, and many will remember having some of his famous home baked pies, especially his elderberry pie!  He always had a positive attitude and was a loving family man.  Often referred to as the “go to guy” by many of his friends and family, who benefitted from his wisdom and life experience.  In the words of a friend, “he was a great man!”

He is survived by his loving son Terry (companion Mary) Alderman; daughter, Michele (John) Wagner; sisters-in-law, Stella Clark and Joyce Clark; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Nellie Alderman; wife, Evelyn Alderman; grandson David Alderman; brother William Paul Alderman; sister Emma Edwards; brothers-in-law, Richard Clark, Donald Clark, Douglas Clark, Walter Edwards, Wayne Dinehart; sister-in-law, Nancy Dinehart.
