James Rigney Green

TOPEKA, KANSAS – James Rigney Green (Rick, Jim) died Tuesday, March 24, 2026, of cancer.

He was born in Bath, N.Y., April 26, 1937, to Leonard and Geraldine Rigney Green. He grew up in Hammondsport and graduated from Hammondsport Central School, class of 1955. He earned his B.S. from Syracuse University and his MPA from the University of Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his sister, Gail Kyea, niece Suzanne, and Richard Mahoney, 4 grandnieces:
Jalyn, Kalli, Danielle, Emily, and a great-grandnephew, Cade Michael, and a great-grandniece, Everleigh. Also, cousins Betty (Gerald) Green and children, Barbara (Scott Green and children, Richard (Laura) Kirkmire and children. Also survived by dear friend Dona Peterson.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Anne, brother-in-law Leonard Kyea, adult nephews Michael and Jared Kyea, cousins Gerald Green, Scott Green, George Backus, Carey Rigney, and numerous aunts and uncles.

A man of many interests, he earned his pilot’s license in 1972 and owned a sailboat. He appreciated good food, good wine, and traveled to Europe every summer. As a pioneer data processor, his jobs always involved computers and ” techy gadgets”. He was employed by the State of Kansas, most recently as Director of the Division of Information Systems.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, Hammondsport, from 11:00 AM to noon, where a funeral will take place at noon, and burial at Pleasant Valley Cemetery will follow.
