James R. Pizura

September 13, 1955 – August 21, 2022

PULTENEY – James R. Pizura, 66 years old of Pulteney, NY passed away peacefully Sunday (August 21, 2022) with his family by his bedside.

Jim was born September 13, 1955, in Bath, NY to the late John and Mary Pizura. He graduated from Hammondsport Central School, class of 1973, where he later attended Alfred State & Corning Community College studying electrical engineering. He later returned to the family-owned vineyard operation, which he has managed to date. Jim has had many accomplishments and organizations he participated in over his lifetime but truly, his greatest accomplishment he would say is his family. As he is survived by his wife of 32 years, Bette Pizura, daughters Amie (Trevor) Coots, Katie (Michael) Giaconia, most recent addition-granddaughter Hanna James Coots, his brother David (Sheila) Pizura, and his noble pooch Boe. He is predeceased by his parents John & Mary Pizura, along with many other aunts and uncles.

In April of 2021, Jim was struck with a troubling diagnosis of stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer. Jim had an army of support standing behind him as he received treatment over the last 17 months. As he would call those 17 months his, “extended time.” He found this saying of what cancer cannot do guide him as… it cannot take away your faith, shatter your hope, or lessen your love. It cannot destroy friendship, invade the soul or take away eternal life. It cannot conquer your spirit. On behalf of Jim and our family, we would like to thank those who helped him through this journey that started out with an amazing Interventional Radiologist of the University of Rochester, The Interlakes Oncology & Hematology Team, University of Rochester Radiation Oncologist, as well as his Palliative Care Provider.

For those who were blessed to have known “Jimmy P,” knew he was one-of-a-kind man who had a heart of gold. He was always willing to lend a helping hand or an ear to listen. He had words of wisdom that will be greatly missed by all and a void that truly cannot be filled.

A celebration of Jim’s Life will take place on Saturday (August 27, 2022) from 1-4 pm at Harmonyville Venue, 8884 Parker Hill Road Prattsburgh, NY 14873. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make gifts made to a scholarship created in Jim’s honor, to give back to those children who have been affected or lost a parent to cancer.

The Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 35 Main St., Hammondsport, is honored to assist Jim’s family with the arrangements.
