ALMOND/HORNELL – James Paul Crissy, 68 of Crescent Place, Almond, formerly of Hornell, passed away late Friday morning (Feb. 2, 2024) at his home, after a long terminal illness.

Born in Lackawanna, NY on June 30, 1955 he was a son of the late James R. and Sarah “Sally” (McDonald) Crissy. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife, Yonne Crissy in 2009; a sister-in-law, Nathalie Crissy and two nephews, Gabe Crissy and Joey Liccione.

A graduate or Hornell High School, class of 1973, Jim proudly served his country for 20 years with the United States Marine Corps from 1973 to his honorable discharge as a Gunnery Sergeant in 1993.

He has resided in Almond since about 2011 where he was a member of the Rod and Gun Club. He also taught hunting and firearm safety courses.

A firearms and target practice enthusiast, Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, being outdoors hiking and tracking big and small game.

He is lovingly survived by his daughter, Mary Catherine Recktenwald (Shawn R.); their two sons, Hunter and Gavin Recktenwald; his son, James Steel Crissy and his daughter, Jayce Crissy; siblings, Mike (Jean) Crissy, Ann (Mike) Liccione, Patrick Crissy, Sally (Dave) Young, Shannon Ajour, Damian (Mimi) Crissy, Luke Crissy, Therese Bly and Jason (April) Crissy; as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

A private prayer service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell followed by interment, with full military honors, at Bath National Cemetery.

The United States Flag and the Marine Corps Flag will proudly fly at the Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home in recognition of Jim’s military service.
