ARKPORT/HORNELL – James Edward Riefer, 62, of West Avenue, Arkport, formerly of Hornell, passed away Tuesday (Oct. 1, 2024) because of injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident in the Town of Andover.

Born in Hornell on Apr. 13, 1962 he was a son of the late Francis “Fritz” and Dorothy (Denhoff) Riefer. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by one sister, Nancy McManus; one brother, David Riefer and his nephew, Eric Riefer.

A lifelong resident of the Hornell/Arkport area, Jimmy was a graduate of Hornell High School. He was formerly employed in the railcar business as a painter at M-K and Alstom in Hornell.

He was an avid motorcyclist and was very talented in motorcycle and automobile repair.

Jimmy was a member of the Arkport and Canaseraga American Legions and the Hornell VFW.

He is survived by two brothers, Joseph (Regina) Riefer and William Riefer all of Hornell; one sister, Linda Riefer of Brighton, NY; as well as one aunt and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
