James C. White

HAMMONDSPORT – James C. White, 92, passed away Friday (Nov 1, 2024) at the Park Ridge Living Center in Greece, NY following an ongoing battle with dementia.

Born in Brighton, MI on Feb. 10, 1932 he was the son of the late Clint and Mary (Krieg) White. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Janice White and his sister, Jean Rufus.

A long-time resident of Hammondsport, James retired from Taylor Winery where he worked as a purchasing manager for many years.

After retiring he enjoyed walking the many acres of land he owned and caring for the trees on his property as a New York State Certified arborist.

James was a member of the Keuka Lake Amateur Radio Association (KLARA) and was a member of the Masons.

Staying active in his community, James was a member of the Hammondsport School Board for many years and spent any of his extra time volunteering at the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum.

He is lovingly survived by his children, Jill White of Kentucky, John (Anne Nau) White of Penfield, Julie (Jimmy) Rapczynski of Maryland; grandchildren, Mitchell White and Christopher White; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be an hour of calling from 12 noon – 1 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 9, 2024) at the Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 35 Main St., HAMMONDSPORT where a funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday.  Private interment will be at Bath National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to may contribute in his memory to The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum, 8415 NY-54, Hammondsport, New York 14840. Envelopes for contributions will be available at the funeral home.
