JACK TIETJEN

PENN YAN-Jack Tietjen, 82, of 2064 Guyanoga Road, died at his home on Thursday, September 8, 2011.
He was born on January 19, 1929, the son of John and Grace Broadrib Tietjen. Jack was raised in Avoca, N.Y. and graduated from Avoca High School, class of 1946.
During his life, Jack was a carpenter, farmer, a truck driver for the Town of Jerusalem, a vineyardist, logger and a chauffeur for many of his Mennonite friends. He had a passion for hard work, and a love for the outdoors, family gatherings, baseball, horses and the simple things in life. In his younger years, he was an avid trapper and hunter, a hobby he passed on to his son and grandsons.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, where he proudly served as a driving instructor in the Army in Germany.
Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Dolores (Frarey) Tietjen, who he affectionately always called “Margie”; his daughter, Darlene Truex (Billy) Ouweleen of Branchport; grandson, Jason Tietjen (Raeana) and great-granddaughter, Jaelea; grandson, Adam Tietjen; granddaughter, Samantha Truex and great-grandson, Mason; grandson, Beau Truex (Cheyenne) and great-grandson, Mark; his daughter, Lori Eaton (Michael) of North Carolina; grandson, Mikey Henderson and granddaughter, Sara Eaton; his son, Jeff Tietjen (Sandy) of Penn Yan and grandsons, Clay Tietjen and Brock Phelps; as well as his sister, Gean Serefine of Penn Yan; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Lawrence M. Harris “Mickey”.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held outside at The Valley Inn in Guyanoga on Saturday, Spetember 17th at 2 p.m. where the family will receive friends and neighbors. A commemorative service with the Rev. Barbara Gifford, and a military service by the Yates County Veterans will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ontario-Yates Hospice.
