INA J. EMERY

AVOCA-Ina J. Emery, 81, passed away late Thursday morning (April 30, 2015) at her home on State Route 415.
Born on Feb. 17, 1934 on the family farm atop Call Hill in Caniseto, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Olive Stephens Carney. On June 30, 1956 she was married to John Emery, Sr., who predeceased her on April 19, 2009, after nearly 53 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her three brothers, Royce, Lester and Harry Carney all of the Canisteo area; her sister, Alberta Morse of Canisteo; her two sisters-in-law, Margaret and Ruby Carney and her son-in-law, Gary Gegenfurtner, Sr. of Florida.
Ina grew up in the Canisteo-Hartsville area and was a graduate of Canisteo Central School.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed growing vegetables and flower gardens; lilac shrubs were her favorite. She was also an excellent baker; bread, pies and cakes were among her best. Spending time with her family was her greatest joy.
Her loving family includes her five children, Susan Gegenfurtner of Tampa, Fla., John (Laurie) Emery, Jr. of Bath, Robert (Vickie) Emery of Albuquerque, N.M., Carolyn (Harold) Sabins of Cohocton and Douglas (Cindy) Emery of Farmington; her 11 grandchildren, Gary Gegenfurtner, Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M., David Gegenfurtner of Carrollwood, Fla., Cassandra Gegenfurtner of Palm Harbor, Fla., Ashley Gegenfurtner of Prosper, Tx., John (Crystal) Emery III of Avoca, Deb Emery of Bath, Donald (Megan) Emery of Corning, Kenny Emery of Albuquerque, N.M., Andy Sabins of Rochester, Crystal (John) Ross, Jr. of Canisteo and Scott Sabins of Bath; her five great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters, her four brothers, Clyde Carney, Milburn (Sally) Carney, Neil Carney and Roger (Diane) Carney all of the Canisteo-Hartsville area; her two sisters, Ruth (Richard) Davis of Canisteo and Gladys Dubois of Hartsville; also her nieces and nephews.
The Avoca Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Ina J. Emery.
There will be an hour of calling from 6-7 p.m. Thursday(May 7, 2015) at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca where a funeral service will be held following the hour of calling at 7 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Terry Sutfin officiating. Committal services and interment will be held at Bath National Cemetery on Friday (May 8, 2015).
