HELEN N. JONES

ARKPORT-Helen N. Jones, 97, went home to be with the Lord, on Thursday evening (June 9, 2011) in the comfort of her home on Sharps Hill Road.
Born in Algonquin, Ontario, Canada on April 20, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Rachel Ferguson Noblett. On Sept. 12, 1936 she was married in Rochester to Seymour R. “Cy” Jones, who predeceased her on Dec. 25, 1991, after 55 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her son-in-law, John Hubric; one sister and three brothers.
A former resident of Rochester, Helen graduated in 1933 from West High School where she was a proud member of the National Honor Society. While residing in Rochester, she was employed by the Eastman Kodak Co. where she met her husband, Cy Jones. She also resided in Long Island before moving to Arkport in 1951.
Helen was the loving mother of five children who instead of telling her children how to live actually showed them in Christian love. Besides being a wonderful mother, she also assisted behind the scenes with the family business, Cy’s Shurfine in Arkport.
A member and past Deacon of the Arkport Presbyterian Church, Helen was also a member of the Home Bureau, the neighborhood Bridge Club and a Charter member of TOPS.
Helen was a tremendously talented woman who loved to share her many gifts and talents with others. She will be remembered for her hospitality, her green thumb and her violet ministry. An avid doll “doctor” and collector, she also enjoyed sewing, crafts and antiques.
Her family includes her five children, Betty Jones of Arkport, Bob (Dianne) Jones of Dallastown, Pa., Beverly Hubric of Seminole, Fla., William Jones of Arkport and Larry (Barbara) Jones of Arkport; also her 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell and from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Arkport Presbyterian Church where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Steven Jewell officiating. Private interment will follow at the Arkport Heritage Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Arkport Presbyterian Church, 15 Main St., P.O. Box 6, Arkport, N.Y. 14807. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
