Helen Jean Kubiak

HORNELL – Helen Jean Kubiak, 96, a long-time resident of School Street, passed away early Wednesday morning (May 21, 2025) at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, NY.

Born in Hornell on Jan. 28, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Harlo and Isabelle (Monaghan) Clark. On Sept. 23, 1950 she was married at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Hornell to Robert W. Kubiak, who predeceased her on Nov. 9, 2008 after 58 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her two brothers, James Clark and Robert Clark and her two sisters, Ruth McInerney and Mary Lou Kelleher.

A lifelong resident of Hornell, Jean was a Hornell High School graduate, class of 1946 and a graduate of St. James School of Nursing in 1949.

She began her 23-year career as a Registered Nurse in 1966 with the Steuben County Public Health Nursing Service, retiring in 1989.

Jean was a communicant of the former St. Ignatius Loyola Church and was presently a member Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell where she was a former member of the Resurrection Choir.

Throughout the years Jean was a member of the Legion of Mary, the Ladies of Columbus, the Catholic Daughters of the Amercas and the Alpha Beta Zata Society.

She is lovingly survived by her three sons, Stephen (Linda) Kubiak of Amherst, NH, Daniel (Doreen) Kubiak of Camillus, NY and Robert (Bridi) Kubiak of Hornell; two daughters, Kathleen Grillo of Byron, NY and Amy Crowfoot of Canandaigua, NY; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; also, several nieces and nephews.

To honor her wishes, there will be no public calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to join her family at St. Ann’s Church, 35 Erie Ave., Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M. THURSDAY (MAY 29, 2025). Private committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Hornell.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, NY 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the church.
