Harry L. Sharp

Harry L. Sharp, 4142 Sharps Corners Road, Avoca NY

Harry fixed his fire, fed the birds on Thursday, February 3rd and left our earthly home before the end of the day. At 93 years old, he left a generous supply of wood for his outdoor furnace, every piece cut, split and stacked by him in preparation. He left many tearful hearts behind, yet hearts are full of gratitude for having shared part of his 93 years.

Harry was born August 20, 1928, on the original Sharp farm in Howard, the second son of Olin and Nina (Brasted) Sharp. Grain was being harvested that day.

Harry started school in Howard, graduated from Avoca, and worked on the family farm. After meeting Luella Palmer in Sunday School, they were married in Howard Union Church July 7, 1950. Luella predeceased him in 2019.

Harry is survived by their two daughters, Beverly Falvey (Rich d. 2021) and Patricia Long (Frank d. 2019), grandson Karl Julien (Dina), and five great grandchildren, Nicholas, Alyssa, Kaylen, Aiden and Garret Kai. His second grandson, D. Aaron Julien predeceased him in 2020. Aaron’s wife Hazel survives.

Designed by him and built in the 70’s, Harry’s current house next to the former Sharp home, rose from trees he cut from his property, sawed on his saw mill, and then molded into his home. He then left farming and worked at Haines Manufacturing in Avoca until his retirement, a position he talked about proudly with fond memories.

Harry was a founding and active member of the Howard Volunteer Fire Department.
