HARRIETTE MAY POTTER

PENN YAN – Harriette May Potter born on April 25, 1936 went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 17, 2022.

Harriette is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Charles V. Potter; son, Jeffery C. (Gabriele) Potter; John L. (Kim) Potter; Brock F. (Lynn) Potter. Grandchildren: Hans (Kristiana) Potter; Shauna Marie (Kyle) Cook; Wade L. Potter (Denee Santacroce). Great grandchildren: Ayden Potter and Jaxson Potter. Brother, Frederick (Randi) Van Vliete, sister Jacqueline (James) Robinson, sister-in-laws Teri Van Vliete, Ann Bailey, and several nieces and nephews. Also, survived by her much loved dogs, Luke and Roger.

She predeceased by her parents Lawrence and Fredericka Van Vliete and brother James Van Vliete, brother-in-law Donald Bailey.

Harriette graduated from Hammondsport Central School and Jean Summers Business College, Elmira, NY.

She retired in 2009 from the State of New York Court System, Appellate Division, Fourth Dept where she was secretary to the Presiding Justice, Henry J. Scudder, having been his secretary for 38 years.

Harriette was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Pulteney for over 60 years, having served as a Session Member several times for her church. She also founded the Prayer Shawl Group in that Church.

She was a member of the Bath Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, having been a Grand Officer for the Grand Chapter of the State of New York in 1981.

Harriette was well-traveled as she and her best friend, Rosanna Bates, traveled to England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Germany, Vienna, Switzerland and Italy. Also, travels in the states of Hawaii, California, Florida, North Carolina, New York and, on a cruise to Mexico.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to may be mad to First Presbyterian Church of Pulteney, 9054 County Route 74, Hammondsport, NY 14840 or Yates County Humane Society (House of Hope), 1216 NY-14A, Penn Yan, NY 14527.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday (June 25,2022) at 11 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Pulteney, with the Rev. Don Peek officiating, along with the Order of Eastern Star to be held immediately following the Memorial. A Graveside Service will he be held at Glenview Cemetery, Pulteney, with the Rev. Anne Waasdorf officiating.
