HAROLD W. “HARRY” KOEHLER

AVOCA-Harold W. “Harry” Koehler, 83 of Carrington St., passed away late Monday evening (June 4, 2012) at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Buffalo.
Born in Brooklyn on Aug. 14, 1928, he was the son of the late William and Lillian Blumenberg. In 1947 he was married in Queens to the former Dorothea Krank, who predeceased him in 2005 after 58 years of marriage. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister.
At the age of 17, Harry enlisted during war time with the U.S. Navy and proudly served on the USS Randolph during World War II from 1946 to 1948; from 1948 to 1956 he served as a Navy Reservist.
Harry was employed as a mechanical draftsman with the Morrison-Knudsen Co. in Hornell as well as several other companies in New York state and Arizona.
He enjoyed woodworking, model railroads and remote control model airplanes.
His family includes his son, Roy (Deborah) Koehler of Avoca; his two daughters, Arlene (Tom) Burkham of Arizona and Lorraine Thompson of Colorado; his eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Frank, Aaron, Carrie, Cassie, Corinne, Sharayah and Kristopher; also his three great-grandchildren, Calieh, Wagner and Aiden.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held in his memory at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bath V.A. Center Chapel, with Chaplain Jerry Hamblin officiating. Committal services and interment, with military honors will follow at the Bath National Cemetery.
