HALSEY L. SAGER

AVOCA-Halsey L. Sager, 87, of 29 N. Main St., died Sunday morning (Dec. 7, 2008) at the Steuben County Health Care Facility in Bath.
Born in Bath on Oct. 28, 1921, he was a son of the late Floyd and Florence Beal Sager. On Feb. 2, 1946 he was married in Cohocton to the former Dortha Updyke, who predeceased him on Nov. 10, 1925, after nearly 59 years of marriage.Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his three brothers, Charles, Harold and Clarence Sager and his sister, Ruth Bruce.
A resident of Avoca for most of his life, Halsey served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
For 33 years he was employed by the NYSDOT before retiring in 1976.
Halsey loved dogs as well as gardening.
His family includes his two daughters, Jacquelyn (Jim) Crane of Avoca and Judy (Richard) Noble of Bath; his two sons, Bruce (Sue) Sager and Kirk (Kathy) Sager all of Bath; his nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; also his nieces, nephews and cousins.
There were no calling hours. A private funeral service was held in his memory at the convenience of his family at the Avoca Funeral Home,the Rev. Sande Thomas officiated. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.
