Hal Mark Hurlburt, Sr.
ARKPORT – Hal Mark Hurlburt, Sr. 70, passed away unexpectedly on Monday morning (April 27, 2026) at his home on State Route 36.
Born in Hornell on Jan. 20, 1956 he was a son of the late Homer and Louise (Bundy) Hurlburt. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his son, Marvin Lee Hurlburt and several brothers and sisters.
A resident of the Hornell/Arkport area for most of his life, Hal attended the former Bryant School and Hornell High School. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army and received the National Defense Service Medal.
He was employed as a contractor, building houses before he began his employment with ADT Telephone Communications in Syracuse, NY.
Hal enjoyed fishing, hunting and tinkering. He will be remembered as a “jack of all trades” and was known for his many skills, especially buying and repairing lawnmowers.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of nearly 16 years, Glenda (Mariano) Hurlburt who he married in Canisteo, NY on Nov. 1, 2010; four children, Louise (Randall) Taylor of Hammondsport, NY, Hal Jr. (Ghislaine) Hurlburt of Hornell, Tracy Lynn Hurlburt of Hornell and Tabitha Scruton of Weedsport, NY; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister, Diana Conlan of Canisteo, NY; one brother, Joseph Hurlburt of Hornell; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to join his family at Bath National Cemetery where military honors, followed by inurnment, will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday (May 5, 2026).
A celebration of Hal’s life will take place at the VFW Auxiliary 1470, 7230 NY- Route 54, Bath, NY 14810 following the services.
