GREGORY A. EDWARDS

PAINTED POST – On Saturday, March 18, 2023, Gregory A. Edwards, beloved husband, father, family member, and friend passed peacefully in his sleep at the age of 76. Born in Hornell, NY, on October 07, 1946; Gregory graduated from Avoca Central School in 1964. After which, he went to work as a firefighter for the Corning Fire Department until 1993. During this time, he met and married his wife Phyllis on June 08, of 1968. They were together nearly fifty-five years.

Gregory was well known for his love of caring for and being surrounded by people, making no one surprised when he began his job of driving school buses for Bernie Transportation in 1995, where he remained until he retired in 2018. He entertained friends, family, and strangers with his various stories, jokes, and vast knowledge of history; always making sure no one left without a good laugh. He was also known for his various hobbies, which included camping, stamp collecting, lock smithing, bird watching, canning, and cooking. Gregory was a member of his local Moose Club, the CB Jamborie Campground where he spent many summers relaxing and enjoying the company of his friends and family, and a 32nd degree Mason.

Gregory was predeceased by his mother Thelma (Austin) Edwards; father Floyd B. Edwards; and brother-in-law Theodore Dickerson. He is survived by and will live on in the loving memory of his wife Phyllis (Smith) Edwards; daughter Stephanie A. Edwards (Doan); son-in-law Timothy Doan; grandchildren Emily Doan, Jacob Doan, and Hannah Swimley; sister Ann (Edwards) Dickerson; brother Thomas Edwards; sister-in-law Judy Edwards; brother-in-law Phillip Smith; nieces and their families Kim Edwards-Potter, Jason Potter, Keirstyn Edwards, Jordan Potter; Rebecca (Edwards) Copp, Joshua Copp, Braedyn Copp, Cara Copp; and Lauren Edwards.

Relatives and friends are invited to join his family at the Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, on Tuesday (March 28, 2023) form 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for calling hours, with a funeral ceremony to immediately follow.  Interment will be private at the convenience of his family.
