Gordon W. Bates

KEUKA LAKE-Gordon W. Bates, 82, of Bath passed away Wednesday (Dec. 2, 2020) at the Taylor Health Center in Bath.

Born in Bath on May 16, 1938 he was a son of the late Milford and Edith Bates. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife, Jean F. Bates on Aug. 11, 2018; a son-in-law, Jerry Crowe and a sister-in-law, Jane Williams.

For many years Gordon owned and operated Bates Muck Farm and was employed in maintenance at the Bath Country Club where he enjoyed handing out lost golf balls to members.

After retirement he and his wife, Jean moved to their home on Keuka Lake where they enjoyed many years together.

Gordon was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed a cocktail or two with many of his friends.

His loving family includes one son, Michael (Kylee) Bates of Pulteney; one daughter, Brenda Crowe of Bath; three grandchildren, Taylor Crowe, Jordan (Brooke) Crowe and Alexander Bates; two great-grandchildren, Remi and Mizah Bates; one brother, Norman Bates of Branchport; two sisters, Audrey Sherwood of Bath and Brenda (Bob) Powell of Corning; a nephew, Ted Williams and a niece, Kathe Smothers.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Finger Lakes SPCA, 72 Cameron St., Bath, N.Y. 14810.
