GERALD A. “JERRY” CROSSON
HORNELL-Gerald A. “Jerry” Crosson, 80, of 1190 County Route 66, Green Acres Mobile Home Park, passed away in the presence of his loving family late Wednesday evening (Feb. 6, 2008) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, after a long illness.
Born in Lindley on Aug. 22, 1927, he was a son of the late Alfred and Catherine Brennan Crosson. On June 20, 1952 he was married in Hornell to the former Helen VanScoter, who survives.
A former resident of Corning, where he attended school, Jerry served with the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1945 to 1946 and with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1948 to 1952.
He has resided in Hornell since 1952 and was employed with the former Erie and Erie-Lackawanna Railroads and retired from Conrail as a clerk with 32 years of employment. Following his retirement he enjoyed several years of part-time employment as a driver for Simmons-Rockwell in Hornell.
When he was younger he enjoyed fishing and playing golf and he still enjoyed watching various golf tournaments on television. He will be remembered most of all for being a die-hard Yankee fan.
His family includes his wife of nearly 56 years, Helen; his son, Joseph Crosson of Hornell; his daughter, Jeri Lou (Oliver) Geer of Hornell; his five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his two brothers, Gene (Carol) Crosson of Elkland, Pa. and Ronald Crosson of Corning; his two sisters, Marlene (Victor) Moir of Corning and Marcella Young of Lexington, S.C.; his special aunt, Elma Wood of Corning; and his nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his two brothers, Bernard Crosson and Leland Crosson and his sister, Phyllis Waldren.
To honor his wishes there will be no calling hours. A funeral service, with military honors, will be held in his memory at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.
