CANASERAGA/HORNELL- George A. Wood, “Woody” 61, of Canaseraga, formerly of Hornell, passed away Saturday evening (April 7, 2012) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, in the presence of his loving family.
Born in North Hornell on Feb. 22, 1951, he was a son of Maitland Wood, who predeceased him and Mary Sommers Wood, who survives.
George attended Canaseraga Central School and was employed by the former Erie-Lackawanna Railroad before he began his employment with Taft Tire in Dansville. He was also employed by Morrison-Knudsen in Hornell and later as a machinist for Alstom also in Hornell for over 24 years.
He was a member of the Pontiac GTO Association of America and the Pontiac/Oakland Club as well as C.A.R.S. of Hornell, and was a former member of the Hornell Moose Lodge No. 210.
An avid fisherman, George also enjoyed building cars, bowling and camping. He also loved to reminisce and tell stories and will be remembered most of all for being a family man.
His family includes his two children, Sara Wood and Cpl. Matthew Wood of the U.S. Marine Corps, both of Hornell; their mother, Janice Wood of Hornell; his three sisters, Bea (David) Trickler of Canaseraga, Doris Fisk of Tennessee and Karen Meade of Canisteo; his brother, Dana (Lisa) Wood of Hume; also many nieces and nephews, his two aunts and several cousins.
Calling hours are from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral and committal services will be held in his memory following calling hours at 7 p.m. Friday. Interment will be in the Canaseraga Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Canaseraga Volunteer Ambulance, 10 Main St., Canaseraga, N.Y. 14822. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
