Then on to Corning Inc. and lastly Haines Equipment, which Carroll and Patricia Haines owned. Lou was an exceptional machinist. His hobbies were making and flying Rc Planes, but he never wanted to fly in any airplane. Lou loved to watch the Aviation Industry grow. He had vast knowledge of different airplanes manufactured, but his love was the Curtis Wright P-40 “The Flying Tiger “which he made parts for. Lou loved to ride his bike and was proficient at riding it backwards. He loved dogs, cats and bowling. Lou loved good food, and even could tell you tidbits, on how to prepare it well. For Lou’s 94th birthday, hundreds of people, friends, coworkers, and family sent in well-wishing cards, visits, and postings. Lou thought that was wonderful that people took the time to remember him. Lou would like to thank all those that came and helped in the end, especially Shirley Ann Bowker Hill and Darnell Smith, and the great employees of the Steuben Center, where they made him feel like a “king” there.
Lou will be donating a glass cup to the Avoca Historical Society, that has “Souvenir of Avoca “on it. It was bought in 1884 by his mother, and Lou kept it to the end.
