ESTHER B. THOMPSON
AVOCA-Esther B. Thompson, 95, of 4459 Thompson Lane, Town of Avoca, died early Friday morning (Oct. 22, 2010), with her loving family at her bedside.
Born in Avoca on June 29, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Lena Bassett Bartlett. On Nov. 19, 1941 she was married in Avoca to Rodney A. “Rod” Thompson, who predeceased her on March 17, 1999 after 58 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her daughter, Donna M. Davis.
A life-long resident of Avoca, Esther was the oldest living graduate of Avoca Central School, class of 1935.
She was employed by various businesses in Avoca and retired from Mueller’s Market.
Esther was a life time member of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Avoca Red Hat Society and a past member of the Avoca Ladderettes.
Affectionately known as “Gramma” to everyone who knew and loved her,
she enjoyed cooking, camping, crocheting and farming.
Besides her daughter, Julia Brandow, her family includes, Belinda (Brian) Connor, Rodney (Stacey) Lee, Robert (Betty Jean) Lee, Diane (Mark) Dunning, Deborah Knapp, Darla (Joe) Hoffman, Bruce (Eugenia) Thomas, Jr.; her four closest grandsons, Charles (Pam) Connor, Sean (Lanette) Connor, Rodney T. Lee and Andrew Dunning. She also has 11 other great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a funeral and committal service will be held following calling hours at 6:30 p.m. Monday with the Rev. William Spencer officiating.
Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.
