Elizabeth Mae “Betty” Stiles

HORNELL-Elizabeth Mae “Betty” Stiles, 79, of East Washington Street, entered into rest Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 27, 2022) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.

Born in Waverly, NY on Oct. 1, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Minzie (Stage) Fisk. On Oct. 2, 1962 she was married in Hornell to David Stiles, who predeceased her on June 11, 1995 after nearly 33 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her stepfather, Fred Groves; one granddaughter, Heather Rivera; five sisters, infant Mabel Groves, Nancy Fisk, Sandra (Wayne) Rinaldi, Rosemary (Clint) Hadsell and Trudy Snyder; two brothers, Richard Fisk and David Groves.

A resident of Hornell for most of her life, Betty was employed for many years by the former Loohn’s Cleaners and Steuben Trust Company in Hornell.

Throughout the years Betty made several wedding cakes and was a talented sewer; she also enjoyed spending time visiting with her family and friends and bird watching.

She is lovingly survived by three children, Karl Stiles, Cindy Palmer (Rick) all of Hornell and Edwin Stiles of Cohocton, NY; one granddaughter, Crystal Rivera of Hornell; two great-granddaughters, Jaidlyn and Amara; one sister, Candy Mead (Bud) of Hornell; three brothers, Steve Groves (Sue) of Hornell, Rick Groves (Sue) of Canisteo, NY and John Groves of Almond, NY; a sister-in-law, Anna Groves of Greenwood, NY;  as well as many nieces nephews and cousins.

Calling hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 31, 2022) at the Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell where a funeral service will take place following calling hours at 1 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo, NY.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
