E. JEANETTE REESE
HORNELL/PHELPS-E. Jeanette Reese, 84, formerly of Hornell, N.Y. and a resident of Phelps for the past six years, entered into rest early Wednesday morning (Jan. 14, 2009) at the Clifton Springs Hospital in Clifton Springs, N.Y.
Born in West Union on Christmas Day 1924, she was a daughter of the John and Jossie McMindes Osmin of Greenwood, N.Y. On May 3, 1947, she was married at the former Park Methodist Church in Hornell to her loving husband, Edward C. Reese, who predeceased her on Oct. 29, 2001 after 54 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her eldest son, Fred (Vickie) Reese of Woodstock, Ill., her siblings, Paul Osmin of Friendship, N.Y., Florence Freeman of Wellsville, N.Y. Anna (Craig) Snyder of Andover, N.Y. and Delores (Bud) Morris of Wellsville, N.Y.
Jeanette attended the Rough & Ready School, graduated from Greenwood Central School and received her RN Nursing degree from St. James School of Nursing in Hornell.
For many years she was employed in the nursing profession that she loved at St. James Mercy Hospital and in private practice for the late Dr. Richard Travis in Hornell. Before her retirement she was employed as a Public Health Nurse for both the City of Hornell and Steuben County Public Health Nursing.
A member of the United Methodist Church in Hornell, she was also a member of the Hornell Auxiliary Police.
Jeanette enjoyed embroidering, needlepoint, golfing and was a long time member of the Twin Hickory Golf Club in Hornell.
Her family includes her four children, Sharon (Henry) Ranger of Clifton Springs, N.Y., Mary (Bob) Annis of Hornell, James (Cheryl) Reese of Hornell and Bridget (Jeff) Bennett of Petersburg, Va.; her 14 grandchildren including, Bryant (Shana) Ranger of Clifton Springs, N.Y. Matt (Leslie) Ranger of Waterloo, N.Y., Brad (Jen) Ranger of Elizabeth, N.J., Sylvia Kilosky, Jackie Bostjancic and Edward Kilosky all of Jacksonville, Fla., Jossie Reese of Hornell, Tina (Rick) Whiteman of Wayland, N.Y., Billiejo Curry, Denise Curry and James (Jen) Reese all of Hornell, John (Candi) Reese of Canisteo, N.Y., Brooke (Mike) Pfister of Browns Mills, N.J. and Jessie Bennett of Nalstrom AFB, Montana; 24 great-grandchildren; her brother, Lee Osmin of Hornell; also her nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours are from 6-8 p.m. Friday and 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral and committal service will take place following callings hours at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Terry Kelly officiating. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
