DUANE G. HOUGHTALING, SR.
ARKPORT-Duane G. Houghtaling, Sr., 72 of Cream Hill Road, passed way Monday evening (Jan. 28, 2008) at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.
Born in Hornell on July ll, 1935, he was a son of the late Isaac and Blanche Elster Houghtaling. On Aug 11, 1956, he was married in Hornell to the former Lois McGregor, who predeceased him on April 4, 2003 after 46 years of marriage. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his grandson, Dominic DeBerardinis, his brother, Donald Houghtaling and his mother-in-law, Viva Woodworth.
A graduate of Calicoon High School, Duane served with the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1976. For about 10 years he was employed at the Bath V.A. Medical Center and for about two years he was employed for ADC Telecommunications of Minneapolis, Minn. Most recently he was employed as a part-time security guard for the New York State Office Building in Hornell.
Duane has resided in Stephens Mills for the past 25 years and was a member of the Haskinville Wesleyan Church, the Arkport American Legion Memorial Post No. 1248, the Hornell Moose Lodge No. 210 and was also an avid bowler.
His family includes his seven children, Ronald (Marie) Houghtaling of Canisteo, Kim (Jim) Hughes of Hornell, William (Penny) Houghtaling of Cleveland, Ohio, David (Jessica) Houghtaling of Arkport, Duane Jr. (Beth) Houghtaling of Finksburg, Md., Stephanie Houghtaling and Melanie Davidson both of Arkport; his 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; his two brothers, Edward (Mary Lou) Houghtaling of Florida and Isaac Jr. (Zorena) Houghtaling of Bath; his companion, Michele Flansburg of Hornell and his nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours are from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a private funeral service will be held at the convenience of his family, with Pastor Michael Gallant officiating. Committal services and interment, with military honors, will be in the Fremont Cemetery.
