DONALD NIVER
COHOCTON-Donald Niver, 78, of Cohocton, passed away Thrusday (Nov. 3, 2011) at his home.
Born in Corning on Nov. 5, 1932, he was a son of the late C. Arthur and Julia Baeur Niver. On Aug. 25, 1964, he was married in Charlotte, N.C. to the former Juanita “Nita” Pridmore, who survives.
He graduated from Hammondsport Central School in 1950 and completed under graduate studies at Buffalo State College and received his master’s degree in education from Southern Illinois University. Donald served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He was employed by Steuben-Allegany County BOCES in Bath as a Driver Education Teacher before his retirement.
A volunteer for BLM in Colefoot, Alaska, he was passionate about traffic safety especially seatbelt programs for children.
His family includes his wife of 47 years, Nita of Haskinville; four sons, Floyd Kisiah of Hammondsport, Michael Kisiah of Wallace, Steve (Virginia) Kisiah of Joshua, TX, Jeffrey (Pam) Salisbury of Syracuse; his daughter, Shawn Kisiah of Voorhees, N.J. his five grandsons, Matthew (Deon) Kisiah of Texas, Eric Kisiah of Texas, Adam (Lori) Kisiah of Bath, Aaron (Melissa) Kisiah of Bath and Frank Bottini of Voorhees, N.J.; his five great-grandchidlren, Riley, Noah, Maximus Kisiah, Bailey and Maverick Gonzalez; his two brothers, David (Alice) Niver and Robert (Audrey) Niver; his two sisters, Martha Niver and Jane Kiernan; his brother-in-law, Ronald (Kay) Pridmore.
Calling hours are Monday from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a funeral and committal service will be held following calling hours at 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. William Spencer officiating.
