David L. Mattoon

AVOCA – David L. Mattoon died on Tuesday (Jan.30, 2024) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester after an extended illness.

He was born Feb. 20, 1951 in Avoca, NY.  He is predeceased by his parents Harold Mattoon and Phyllis (Warner) Mattoon. He is survived by his loving wife Paulette (PJ) Aucoin of 37 years, his brothers Lance (Joyce) Mattoon, Brian Mattoon, and his nieces Angela Mattoon, Erika (Mattoon) Wright.

David is a graduate of Avoca Central School class of 1969.

He was in the US Army Reserves from 1971-1977 which included Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He moved to Texas for 43 years where he met his wife PJ. He worked for Phonoscope in Houston which included the wiring of cable TV for former President George H.W. Bush’s office. He loved boating on Lake Travis, supported Finger Lakes SPCA, and collected R2D2 memorabilia. David was a big Pittsburgh Steelers fan, loved NASCAR, and attended University of Texas football games. He loved his kitties. They returned to Avoca in 2021. He was a member of the Bath American legion, VFW Steuben County Veterans Memorial, Elks Club, and War Dads at Avoca Legion.

The Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 35 Main St., AVOCA is honored provide the funeral service on Friday (Feb. 9, 2024) at 12pm noon, followed by a celebration of Davids life at the Bath American Legion immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Finger Lakes SPCA, 72 Cameron St., Bath, NY 14810.
